A Clockwork Green????

I got all excited this afternoon when I got an email from Etsy.  It seems that the last clock I made sold this morning!!!  I was so excited to hear it I went out and build another one.  Of course its not the same, not even close, but this one is cute.  Its a little clock, but has really nice symmetry.

This clock is made from 6 hard drive controller boards and one hard drive platter.   Luckily for me, all the holes lined up and  putting it together was fairly straightforward.  Sometimes I have drill my own holes to make a shape I like, and sometimes I just have to find alternative ways to get the look out of the piece that I want.





As you can see the boards overlap each other and surround the platter.  It gives it some interest as you look at it.

Guy With Guitar (perspective)

Today we are going a completely different direction from tomatoes.  This is obviously a guy playing guitar, but I wanted to work on both drawing hands and on perspective.  When I stumbled upon this picture, I couldn't resist.

I really wish that the picture wasn't all blue and grey.  maybe I should repaint and use a red shirt or something.  Despite the way the left hand looks, I'm really proud of bing able to draw the hands as well as I did.  I think the main problem with the hand is not that it isn't drawn well, bu that the paint looks a little odd.  If you look at the hand again, you will see the fingers are formed well and in proportion.  Its just a little running I got from the pain that makes it look a little odd.

The left shoulder is supposed to be way in front of the right one.  I definately think I got the size of his arms right, but there is something not right about the way it looks.  It looks like this guy is sitting square to the viewer.  Well, I'll just keep at it, and I'll get it some day.

I tried hard to leave extra white in this picture.  I could easily have made his shirt a solid color, and it might have worked out ok.  But leaving the white gives a sense of highlights.

I am toying with the idea of putting guitar strings on this,  what do you think?

Another Clock

Here is the latest clock to come from Dabfly Arts. This one, as you can see, has a microchip where each number on a traditional clock face would be.  There are 12 hard drive controllers around the outside.  A piece of clear plexy holds the hard drive platter in place so it appears to be floating in the center of the clock.

Fireflies in a jar

For those of you who don't know, I am a member of a website that is just for artist.  That website holds competitions each month.  Competitions are broken down into different groups.  I attempt the watercolor challenge nearly every month, but I could just as easily get into the drawing, or acrylics, or oils competitions as well.

This month the challenge is to paint something that reminds you of summer.  I didn't and still don't wanna paint a beach scene or sailboats, or flowers.  I chose something that will always remind me of summer:  Fireflies.  I searched for pictures of fireflies until I found a picture I liked, and here is one attempt at painting it.  Its unfortunate that the original size of the picture is very small.  and detail is hard to glean from it, but as you can see it is a girl laying in the grass looking at fireflies in a jar.  I thought it was a great picture to paint.

To that end, here is attempt number two.  Attempt number one is ok, but it is small and very quickly done.  This one is much more detailed.  I am going to do at least one more of these as I am not completely happy with this one.  My biggest regret in this picture is putting sandals on the girl.  In the  next one she will be barefoot.  I do think I got some good shading on here, and I like the way I have done the hair.  If you click on the painting, you will be able to see it in more detail.

Unique Circuit Board Clock

Here is another clock I have done.  This one is made of old hard drive parts.  It would be easy just to place the clock hands on the round platter and call it good, but I used pieces from 8 different hard drives to build this.  They are all screwed together and the platter affixed to the center.  The clock has a lot of interest when you look at it closely.    I am really proud of this one, I hope you all like it.

A Return to a Lost Time

 Well, I think we have been here before, or at least somewhere close.  This is a variation on the other clock that I made.  This one, obviously, has a round frame around a rectangular piece of diamond plate.  The frame and the hour and minute hands are flat black.  The last 1/2 inch of the second hand is bright red, the rest is flat black.  the picture doesn't show that off as well as I would like.

I'm almost out of material, so for those of you who don't like these works, you wont have to endure much more.  For those of you who do, don't worry, I'll be on to similar clocks soon enough.  This clock is currently for sale on Etsy.  Follow the previous link to view it.

Simple Man Clock

Here is the latest clock.  I call it Simple Man Clock.  I like it.  No Clutter, No Fluff, Just Clock.  The way is should be.  I will tell you that it was a bitch to try to take a picture of.  The surface is so reflective that I couldn't use a  flash, and my office is so dark that i couldn't get a good picture if I didn't use the flash.  With a little persistance, I got it worked out.

Yes, I know the hands are supposed to be at 10 and 2 to form a smile, but I didn't feel like resetting it.  Enjoy
