Vintage Fishing Lures in Wooden Box

Ok, so I painted this one again.  It seems I do that from time to time.  I find an image I like, and I paint it a few times until I paint it close to the way I want it.

My previous painting, I believe, had the floor of the box slightly lighter that the sides.  I thought that it would probably make the lures stand out a bit more if I did the floor a little darker, and the sides lighter.  I hope that it worked.

I was also trying to give the lures a yellow/brown aged look.  That much, I think I have gotten right.  Maybe a little too much.  I think that the lures definitely look like they have been around for a long long time.

There could be a bit more shadowing on the lures, and the box, and there probably should be some highlights in there somewhere.  If it was like half the times I went fishing growing up, it was a really overcast day, and there weren't any shadows or highlight.  lol.

Keeping it Reel

Yes, I know I said I was done with the whole fishing theme.  But I actually did this a couple of months ago, and had never gotten around to posting it.  As you can see, we have another reel.  This doesn't necessarily look all that old save the bakelite crank handle .

I had a bit of a had time trying to get several different colors and shades of grey or chrome.  I didn't want any one piece of chrome to look too much like any adjacent chrome.  Then I had to put a few shadows on.  I guess the jury is still out on how I did.  

I think the thing I still need to do on this is to paint or draw on some line and this one is done.  Hope you enjoy it.

Metal Tackle Box

Well, here is the final one, I think, of my fishing series of paintings.  This one, is of course lures, in a metal tackle box.  Had fun painting it, though it took me a while.  I started this on my lunch hour last friday, and painted for about 15 minutes each lunch until today.  I like how some of it turned out, other parts, not quite so much.

Don't Get Hooked

I'm calling this painting Dad's Tackle Box.  It is one more painting of something I am trying to elevate to art.  Looking at it, you just see a bunch of fishing lures, but  when displayed in a box like this, they do achieve some semblance of art.  Each of the lures has a white tag tied to it.  Obviously dad isn't gonna go fishing with these any more.  Too bad, I think I've caught fish on lures just like them.

Well, this one was much more technical than I am used to.  I Lots of tiny little places to paint, and trying to get all those strings in there was a bit much.  I hope I was able to stretch my abilities a little bit here.  I am going to have to try to do some more detailed paintings like this in the future.

Odds N Ends

This is a very quick painting of a couple of fishing  boats in the fog in Morro Bay Harbor.  

These are two quick sketches I did of the Harbor Hut tower.  Save the power plant stacks it is the highest thing around the south pier in Morro Bay Harbor.  It is obviously a south pacific themed restaurant.
