Splatter Splatter

I love a good splatter painting.  It can be very cathartic to literally throw some paint around.  You get to be messy and sloppy and it all works out in the end.

You can probably tell that I painted these in the same session.  They use the same colors, the same positioning, and generally the same feel.  Usually I will have included a few buds in the painting to allow for something a little more natural, or as natural as a splatter painting can get.   My head must not have quite been in the game when I did these, or I'd have included a few.

Well, anyway, they have nice colors in the, and aren't too hard on the eyes.  Enjoy

Conehead

I've gotten some kind of fascination with coneflower lately.  I don't know if its the big ball head on it or if its all the leaves around the sides, but they seem really nice to me right now.

I've tried to put the yellow in the background to make your eyes travel to the top of the painting.  I didn't like the green on the bottom, so, instead of trying to fudge with it too much, and overwork it, I'd rather just move your eye away from that.

I'll bet you didn't really even notice it until you read it, but now that you have, you notice that your eye just naturally drifts up in the painting.

Well, enjoy the painting.

Quick Flowers

Well, I have been able to get back to the studio a bit lately.  I'm working on a few larger projects, but I still have been able to do a few quick sketches.  Some are good, some, not so much.  It doesn't matter, they are all fun to paint.  Hope you like them.

red

Here is a painting I started a long time ago.  I just never seemed to have enough time to finish it, or maybe it was interest.  Well, at any rate, I spent a little time last night to finish it up.  Hope you like it.

Woman in Pool

Wish spring time upon us and summer just around the corner, its time to start thinking about all those summer time pursuits. Errr, well, maybe not pursuing anything, just lounging in the sun.

This is a  obviously a woman lounging on the steps of of a pool.  I tried to make the water a little darker with each step of the pool, but not make is so uniform that it doesn't look alive.  Just like I don't use black in any of my paintings, I don't use white either.  So where you see white in this painting, what should be reflections off the top of ripples, I've used a white pencil.  And so that it doesn't look too pencil-ly, I used the pencil before painting the top layer of blue.

If you see some shimmer on the water, it's because I've used glitter watercolors on the very top coat.  I thought this would be a good way to give some real reflection off the water.

Hope you enjoy this painting.  I really had fun painting it.  Thank you

A Couple of Coneflowers

Ok, for some reason, I can't seem to get away from flowers.  Here I have two different cone flowers.

I don't know what it is I like about these, but since I saw the first pictures of coneflowers, I've had a thing about painting them.  I must have painted a dozen coneflower or more (some of which have made this blog.)

I apologize for not having a good story to tell about painting these paintings.  Its been a long day, its late at night, and I'm about to go to bed.  So, since I don't have a lot to say.....   Hope you enjoy these paintings.

White flowers

I was doing a few practice paintings for a watercolor group that I belong to and this is what I came up with. I don't really know what kind of flower it is. The picture makes it look almost like some kind of hydrangea but the green leaves for much larger. What I've painted is just a tiny bit of the overall picture. The overall picture had five pots with plants in them and some garden figurines in front of the pots. The flower I painted happens to be one of the potted plants. And I only painted a small portion of it. I didn't think I could manage to re-create the garden figurines with any degree of accuracy so I just eliminated them.

This is just a quick small study I don't think I'm going to turn these in as my final work on painting this image but I think it's a good start.

I like that the flower stand out on the road in there some greens and yellows and browns surrounding them but I'm not happy that the flowers turned out somewhat flat.  I think I'm gonna have to work on that and get them to look a bit rounder. Regardless I enjoyed painting them I hope you enjoy looking at them.
thank you

Purple Potted Flowers

So while a had a little time off yesterday, I was able to paint this.  I've a friend who paints these unbelievable painting in this loose style that I like so much.  I asked if I could use her paintings as a guide while I'm learning and she agreed.  Mine are no where as good as hers, but I like mine none the less.

So this one is a potted purple plant.  I don't really know what plant it is, and I don't think it really matters.   Looking at it you can just see that the sun must come in from the other side  The plant is growing more away from us than toward us, but looking at it from this direction, we can see the pot.

well, thats all for now. Hope yo u like this little painting.  I had fun painting it.
