Oranges

Was working on two paintings today at lunch.  Both with an orange theme.  This one, Ill put in my gallery of fruit.   The other one you will have to wait for until at least tomorrow.

I don't know why I wanted to paint oranges, but for some reason, it seemed right.  maybe my vitamin C is a little low.

I think I've been getting too tight lately, and I'm trying to loosen back up a bit.  This is my first attempt at that.

Pencils or Paint

Ok, so while my daughter was painting this weekend, and I was sitting next to her pondering what I was going to paint, I decided to pull out the watercolor pencils.

We haven't had much rain in the past year, and we have a slight gopher problem.  As a result, I have one little tree that has been stunted and, I think had its roots eaten away.  The tree is dead or dying, but I haven't gotten up the gumption to remove it just yet.  Well, this little tree was the subject of my attention.

I did it first with watercolor pencil, then a second time with watercolor paint.  Each has its own merits.  I think I like the watercolor paint best, but I do like the detail I can put into it with the pencils.

It took all of about 10 minutes to set up, paint (draw) and finish these.  In that time, my daughter had painted two paintings and was over it.  This is all I could muster.  I'm gonna have to step up the pace to keep up with her.

Wrenches

Well, I've been finding it hard to find time to paint lately.  It just seems that life keeps getting in the way of art.  Well, I suppose that's how it goes some times.  I'll get back into it soon, but in the mean time.  I just found this.  I did it probably 6 months ago.  Trying to be loose with the paint, but still allowing you to know what it is I am painting.   Also, maybe I was trying to see how many different shades of grey(?) i could paint a wrench.  LOL, well, anyway, enjoy.

Quick Sketch of a Triumph

Ok, I had about 20 minutes during lunch today.  I sketched this triumph and gave a quick wash.  I had very few colors on my palette today, and didn't want to get more out.  So I used the colors I already had.  As you can tell, it was filled with mostly reds.

Vintage Fishing Lures in Wooden Box

Ok, so I painted this one again.  It seems I do that from time to time.  I find an image I like, and I paint it a few times until I paint it close to the way I want it.

My previous painting, I believe, had the floor of the box slightly lighter that the sides.  I thought that it would probably make the lures stand out a bit more if I did the floor a little darker, and the sides lighter.  I hope that it worked.

I was also trying to give the lures a yellow/brown aged look.  That much, I think I have gotten right.  Maybe a little too much.  I think that the lures definitely look like they have been around for a long long time.

There could be a bit more shadowing on the lures, and the box, and there probably should be some highlights in there somewhere.  If it was like half the times I went fishing growing up, it was a really overcast day, and there weren't any shadows or highlight.  lol.

I hope you all like this painting.
